In many ways, Y3K is an experiment in speculative design that explores themes of alienation and empowerment in the Web3 era by recalling and remixing Y2K aesthetics, recontextualizing the imagery of late ‘90s techno-optimism in anticipation of an unstable future.
Plus, it looks really cool.

Miss the days of ASCII art and Windows 95? When the word “hacker” brought to mind images of Oakleys and Cyberdecks? Yeah. We miss the Y2K-era too. Not because we were almost eradicated as a species by a series of worldwide computer glitches (RIP), but because its blindingly techno-optimistic aesthetics create nostalgia for a future that never existed. In the face of Web3, and an unstable future for the internet and the metaverse, it only makes sense to re-examine those aesthetics.
